You will be pleased to know
that our classmate,
LCDR Francis A. Nicolai, USCG (ret), has been selected to
receive this year’s CGA Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award. Here
are some highlights of his career. In
1982 Frank Nicolai was temporarily
appointed as a Judge on the NY State Supreme Court. The next year he won
election to a full term as a NY State Supreme Court Judge. Over the past quarter
of a century, Judge Nicolai served the citizens of NY State as a State Supreme
Court Judge winning election in 1983, 1990, 2004 and 2007. Starting in 1999, he
became the Chief Administrative Judge for Westchester, Rockland, Orange,
Duchess and Putnam counties assuming responsibility for all court operations,
assignment of over 100 Judges, and over a thousand non-judicial personnel at 25
court locations. This responsibility continued for nine years until he reached
the age limit for the position. In 2009 Judge Nicolai was appointed as a presiding
State Supreme Court Judge for Suffolk and Nassau counties on Long Island in
addition to the five counties that elected him
